Cachalot feat. Māra Krastiņa

Marc Berman: accordion and electronics
Jamasp Jhabvala: violon and electronics
Māra Krastiņa: animation with overhead projector

The visual work of Māra Krastiņa explores the universe of contemporary folklore through hand drawing and sound driven atsmospheres.

Cachalot is an violin/accordion improvisation duo anchored in a long-term collaboration between Marc Berman and Jamasp Jhabvala: between 2006 and 2021, they plunged into the icy waves of projects such as The Raspoutine Smoked Band, Convulsif, Paracelze, Fashion Noise, Vagalatschk, the Akouphène Festival, all projects navigating between popular music and research music. If it is indeed in this second category that CACHALOT fits, it also carries within it the traces of the various folklores and genres explored by the two musicians. They triturate the natural sounds of their respective instruments until only keeping a halo in a long and obscure exploration of the abyss. From a noise background of electronic cracklings emerge long and slow melodies, broken by sudden and ephemeral ground swells.
